Your guide to the tastiest foodie happenings going down this week. Bon appetit!
La Cocina Holiday Market @ Women's Center
La Cocina is hosting a pop-up holiday bazaar this Sunday in the Mission. There'll be over 20 food vendors, DIY artisans, and 30 local businesses to make sure you finish all your holiday shopping on time this year. There'll also be a tamale cooking class as well as a holiday cocktail party in the evening. Sounds like a perfect Sunday to us. // Sunday, Dec. 11, 11am-8pm, 3543 18th St. (Mission), RSVP here.
Clairesquares Classic Irish Christmas Cake
Speaking of La Cocina, one of their super successful alums, Claire Keane of Clairequares, is offering a classic Irish Christmas cake this year for the holidays. This cake used to only be reserved for the rich when it was first introduced in the 16th century, but Clairesquares is bringing it to the masses. Made with a medley of aged fruits soaked in brandy, spices, molasses, brown sugar, and butter, the cake tastes just like Christmas should. // Order it here.
Motze Starts Lunch
Motze, the new project from Bar Tartine alums Nick Balla and Cortney Burns, is starting lunch this week. Guests will be able to order from a Japanese-inspired menu with dishes ranging from cold ginger noodles with sunflower tahini and 7 spice or romanesco and cauliflower salad with sesame and sea laver. But we're most excited for the rice porridge with spicy chicken, sausage, egg, peanut and fried garlic schmaltz. // Tuesday-Sunday, 11am-2pm, 983 Valencia (Mission), motze.xyz
Ment'Or Foundation Dinner
The Ment'or Foundation is hosting a fundraiser for Team USA prior to its trip to Lyon to represent the United States at the next Bocuse D'Or culinary competition. An all-star cast of San Francisco's best chefs including Joshua Skenes (Saison), Michael Mina, Mourad Lahlou (Mourad), and Corey Lee (Benu) will be cooking together for one night at In Situ. That's more Michelin stars in one meal than we can count, and this is an excellent (and delicious!) way to support Team USA as they head into the competition. Tickets will absolutely sell out. // Tuesday, Dec. 13, 7pm-9pm, 151 3rd St. (SoMa), Get tickets here.
Bicycle Banh Mi's New Menu @ Little Window
San Francisco cult pop-up Bicycle Banh Mi quietly opened their takeout spot Little Window in North Beach earlier this fall, and now they're rolling out a new winter menu. BBM is obviously known for their banh mi, but the new menu will include soul-satisfying warm bowls of pho. They're staring off with a chicken and a veggie version, but the menu will change weekly based on what's fresh and available. // Monday-Friday, 7:30am-2pm, 1 Icehouse Alley (North Beach), bicyclebanhmi.com
JANE, the popular café concept form chef Amanda Michel with current locations on Fillmore and Larkin, is opening a new retail bakery on Geary and Steiner. Head Baker Jorgen Carlsen (Craftsman & Wolves) is heading up the new outpost, where you'll be able to binge on mini cookies, cinnamon rolls, chocolate brioche, chocolate sourdough, baguettes, challah, and more. // Open daily, 7am-6pm, 1881 Geary St. (Western Addition), itsjane.squarespace.com
