If you ride a bike, you know that there are moments when pedaling can feel like dancing. When the slope of the street or the angle of the turn is just right, it feels like you're gliding through the city, never quite touching down. Even on a stressful rush hour commute, that ride is its own frantic dance.
That’s the idea behind ODC’s new performance, Transit II: Next Stop, which runs tonight and Saturday at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. In this show, bikes take center stage with the dancers. Max Chen’s custom bikes are seamlessly incorporated into the choreography, as dancers pedal, plié and pirouette across the stage.
This evening, is ODC’s official Bike Night, with discount tickets for bike riders (code: BIKE), bike valet at the event, and a pre-show talk with the choreographer and SF Bicycle Coalition’s Leah Shahum. There’s a Saturday evening show as well. Get your tickets here.
If you can’t make the show, at least try to imagine yourself as a dancer the next time you hop on your bike. Seeing the commute as a performance might just make hectic Market Street more beautiful.
