I'm always on the lookout for inexpensive apartments in Bernal Heights, but they're surprisingly elusive. Usually neighborhoods on the city's outskirts offer plenty of deal-worthy spaces, but apparently Bernal didn't get the memo. It must be that the neighborhood's many assets–cozy restaurants, a sprawling farmers market, proximity to the 101–are no longer a secret. So imagine my surprise when I came across this week's Craigslist Deal. It's a 1 bedroom located right on Cortland, the neighborhood's main drag–and it's only $1500, to boot.

What's the catch? Good question. The place has had a top-to-tail polishing, with new blinds, a fresh coat of paint, and refinished hardwood floors. Large windows in the living area and bedroom provide plenty of natural light; laundry's in the building, and water is included in rent. As for that catch?
