Monsters lurk in all of us, especially those of us whose personalities were invented by Shakespeare. Known for its uniquely San Francisco-leaning interpretations of the infamous bard - and for a raft of local Best Of awards - Cutting Ball Theater opens its season with a three-person chamber version of The Tempest.
Full of romance and conjuring (as opposed to war and bloodshed - this is Shakespeare, after all), The Tempest is the one where the exiled Duke of Milan puts on his sorcerer’s cap and causes the ship carrying his brother to wreck on an enchanted island. He then gets his wizarding comeuppance when his daughter falls in love with his enemy’s son and the island’s creatures start attacking him. Directed by local favorite Rob Melrose, The Tempest takes San Francisco.
