When a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright who enjoys pushing buttons tackles race, there are going to be some theatrical fireworks. That's just math. David Mamet's latest Broadway hit, Race is a scathing courtroom comedy making its west coast debut at ACT this month.
Quick jabbing dialogue follows three lawyers as they decide whether or not to represent a rich white man accused of assaulting a black woman. “The dialogue is tasty, the confrontations spiky, and the observations more than occasionally biting.” says Variety. Evocative and beautifully produced, Race shines a big bright light on the dark underbelly of racial and sexual politics in the American justice system.
