The scarf is a staple in my wardrobe, no matter the season. I find that wrapping a vintage silk one around my neck or tying it to the handle of a handbag adds just the right touch (and sometimes makes me feel very French-chic). And, of course, a long, cashmere one adds just the right amount of warmth.

A scarf’s also a great gift item that’s certain to please (best of all, you never have to worry about fit). During my most recent online search for scarves, I found that Echo enlisted actress Mena Suvari to design a collection of limited-edition scarves, with a portion of proceeds going to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). The designs feature Suvari’s lovely photographs of trees, and they’re perfectly modern and elegant.
