Drink Here Now: 5 Places to Sip This Week

1) Bottomless Beer Wednesday, with Benefits!
What if you could send a kid to college by drinking beer? You can, sort of, at Golden Gate Tap Room this Wednesday, from 5 to 8pm. Pay $10 for all the Calicraft beer you can drink, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the 1:1 Fund, which provides educational opportunities for low-income students in San Francisco. The 1:1 Fund pairs each student with an individual donor who  matches the student’s savings dollar for dollar in qualified child savings accounts (CSAs). So drink all you want; it’s for a good cause. Golden Gate Tap Room is located at 449 Powell Street (@ Sutter).

2) Expanded Happy Hour at Sens
Hosting Happy Hour five days a week just wasn’t enough for Sens restaurant, so they’ve added Saturday to the Happy Hour schedule. They’ve also added some specially-crafted summer cocktails to go with the gorgeous views of the Ferry Building and the Bay Bridge. Stop by Sens (Embarcadero Center 4, Promenade Level) between 3 and 8 pm any day but Sunday, and you’ll find an ample selection of Mediterranean-inspired dishes to enjoy in the lounge or on the patio. Happy Hour menu items range from Wood Oven Pancetta Flat Bread ($10) to Head-On Blue Prawns ($12) to Lamb Tartare ($12). New cocktails include the 209 Cup with muddled cucumber, gin, Pimms, lemonade, and strawberry puree; and the Brooklawn, consisting of Four Roses bourbon, Cynar, and vermouth with maraschino and bitters.

3) Rooftop Views at El Techo de Lolinda
If you’re looking for great views of the Mission, El Techo de Lolinda has a rooftop table for you. Perched atop the reopened restaurant formerly known as Medjool, El Techo is accessible by an elevator located to the left of Lolinda restaurant’s entrance at 2518 Mission Street (@ 21st). Besides raising the rooftop bar’s comfort factor with heat lamps and wind-proofing, Lolinda’s new owners have created a festive space for small groups to gather for Latin American cuisine and “coctels.” The Mexican Firing Squad ($10) features tequila, lime, grenadine and angostura. The Chilcano combines pisco, lime, passion fruit, ginger and bitters. Margaritas are available by the glass ($8 - $12) or the pitcher ($29 - $43), and Chicharrones de Carne are available by the pound ($19). A step up from sidewalk cracklins, these roasted and fried chunks of pork shoulder are served with tortillas, lime and salsa escabeche. El Techo is open seven days a week, until 11 pm on school nights and 1 am on the weekends.

4) New Reasons to Visit Comstock Saloon
Comstock Saloon has a storied history as a San Francisco watering hole since 1907. But rather than resting on their laurels, they’re rolling out new reasons to visit this old-timey saloon. For instance, there’s Free Lunch Fridays, in which patrons are treated to a free lunch with the purchase of two adult beverages. Sunday Supper starts at 4 pm and features cheddar crackers with pepper jelly ($5), Roasted Duck Breast Salad ($14) and Maple Bourbon Pudding ($8). Happy Hour happens daily from 4 to 7 pm, with $6 Derby cocktails and $6 shot-and-beer combos. Choose from the Boot to the Head (bourbon and Anchor Steam), the Cabezazo (tequila and Tecate), and the Headbutt (Bols Genever and Pilsner). Comstock Saloon is located at 155 Columbus Avenue, between Kearny and Jackson.

5) Free Tortured Soul Set at CLIFT
Didn’t land tickets to this year’s Outside Lands? There’s no need to feel left out, now that the Redwood Room is hosting a Friday night music set by Tortured Soul, starting at 8 pm. Tortured Soul is a live dance music trio that combines 70s soul with modern house/techno music to make you shake your groove thang. Redwood Room’s bartenders will be mixing up their regular selection of hand-crafted cocktails, including the Rosa Picante ($16), served on the rocks and made with hot jalapeno vodka, blackened strawberry syrup, lemon juice and mint. Bar snacks will also be available, including Spiced Almonds ($8), Seared Asada Skewers with Chimichurri Sauce ($17), and Mini Lobster Tacos ($18). The show is free, and table reservations are available by calling 415-929-2372. The Redwood Room is located in the CLIFT Hotel (495 Geary @ Taylor).
