The inimitable Jacques Pepin, master chef and KQED booster, is turning 75. In honor of the occasion, Waterbar is preparing a special birthday party on October 14, and party-goers can expect baked oysters, truffled grilled cheese sandwiches, foie gras torchon and much more. Showdogs Celebrates Their 1st Anniversary

Has it really been a year since Showdogs haute-dog emporium classed up Market Street? In honor of the occasion, the menu is expanding to include "Showiches," including a Showburger and a fried chicken sandwich. Be among the first to sample the new offerings at the anniversary party on October 15 from 6-8 p.m. Your $20 tickets gets you local brews and snacks—and there will be live music.

Wine and Vietnamese Food

Last week it was wine and mountain cheeses. This week, the crew at 18 Reasons is schooling attendees on wine and Vietnamese food. Bi-Rite wine buyer Trac Le and Linh Phu will serve a multicourse meal, paired with wines that can stand up to the robust flavors—lemongrass, fish sauce, and more—of the classic Vietnamese dishes. Get Wild With Connie Green

Master forager Connie Green, a household name among the country's top chefs, will be at Omnivore Books on October 16 with coauthor Sarah Scott to celebrate the release of their book, The Wild Table. Join the duo as they talk mushrooms, sea beans, huckleberries and more. The talk runs from 3-4 p.m. and is free—linger for a few hours and you can catch baker and Francophile Dorie Greenspan, who will be signing copies of her book, Around My French Table, from 6-7 p.m.

Sunday Brunch at Boulette's with Jessica Theroux

Jessica Theroux's recently released first book, Cooking with Italian Grandmothers, chronicles a year she spent in Italy, learning the culinary tricks of the trade from a dozen "old stoves."
