Love the idea of eco-friendly, recycled, repurposed and vintage fashion, design and art harmoniously mingling in the same gallery space? We sure do. Not surprisingly, we were immediately smitten when we popped by the Eco-Forward Spring Show now on view at Secession Art and Design through the end of May.
When we stopped by the gallery and boutique in lower Bernal Heights to take a peak at the show last week, we found jewelry designer Colleen Mauer and gallery founder and designer Eden Stein manning a space filled with art, clothing, accessories and items for the home all chosen for possessing what Stein describes as an eco-forward approach. Instead of limiting the show to green products, Stein wanted to broaden the notion of what’s sustainable by including works that show various ways of approaching responsible production.
Peter Andrea’s painted and carved collages using reclaimed wood sit opposite a wall of Ivy Jacobsen’s moody, haunting landscapes. Sustainable wood sculptures by Adrift Mobiles hang above a boutique stocked with vintage-inspired hats by Behida Dolic, Amy Faust’s recycled glass jewelry and reconstructed vintage apparel by Taxi CDC and Medium Reality. Along with in-house designers Mauer, Heather Robinson, New Skool and Twelve Designs, whose work is always on view here, you’ll also find Kathleen Maley, Ava Love, gr.dano, Tamo Design and Gypsy and Loic participating in the show.
The gallery gets festive with a guest DJ and vino this Friday evening during the show’s opening reception from 6:30-9:30 p.m. More details.
