After more than a decade in the Bay Area, Facebook is finally planning to open an office in San Francisco.
According to the San Francisco Business Times the social media empire is planning to move to the city after the Central SoMa Plan is approved (which should be in August 2016). The project aims to upzone the tech-filled neighborhood and could lead to the development of millions of square feet of new office space.
At this point everything is still very preliminary, especially considering that Facebook is already planning 962,000 square feet of office development in Menlo Park for an estimated 6,550 new employees. The tech company is currently Menlo Park's largest employer.
