Recovered from last weekend's Street Food Festival yet? Well, we hope you ate enough 'Zilla dogs and Korean tacos to tide you over until this weekend's Eat Real Festival in Oakland, another bonafide food festival bonanza.
The Eat Real Festival, which goes down in Jack London Square, is the East Bay's celebration of street food, local cuisine and the growing urban homesteading movement. Two music stages (punk rock, afro beat, blues, etc.), food demos (home-roasting coffee, goat-butchering, raising chickens!) and contests (jam, beer, kombucha and pickle-making!) are just the tip of the iceberg.
The street food carts/trucks/stands/whatever are coming in droves. All the usual suspects will be there, from Adobo Hobo, Hapa SF, Curry Up Now and Roli Roti (which had the longest line at the Street Food Fest), as well as fresh ones to choose from, like Evil Jerk Cart, Fat Face and Raw Daddy Foods. Check out the deliciously long list here.
And while this weekend won't be a scorcher, you'll still need to sip on stuff to cool you down. Aside from the kombuchas, juices and "wine barn", there will be a sprawling beer shed, stuffed with all the favorite breweries of local brewski buff Dave McLean of Magnolia Pub & Brewery. From 21st Amendment to Black Diamond Brewing, check the beer shed's offerings here.
And for a head start on the festival, Oakland's Camino restaurant is hosting a fundraising dinner on Thursday, August 26th. Shell out for a ticket and you get a three-course, family style meal!
