Shopping all goodies Goop, locally, is now a thing. Gwyneth Paltrow’s famous brand just flung open the doors to its richly decorated sixth permanent brick-and-mortar in Larkspur’s Marin Country Mart. Along with the full range of Goop beauty products and a curated selection of G. Label by Goop clothing, a collection of pretty little things (jewelry, homewares, wellness) beckon from luxurious oak shelving and displays.
The refined and inviting 1,300-square-foot boutique is the first location to feature an active facial room, which means you can book an appointment for any number of glow-y treatments with Goop-approved licensed aestheticians.
And in case you didn’t catch it, this is not Goop’s first Bay Area rodeo. Over the years, there have been several SF pop-ups and a short-lived Fillmore Street store. Makes sense since the Bay is one of the brand’s top markets.
“Our selection of the Marin Country Mart is intentional, reflecting our desire to place our stores in locations that resonate with our ethos,” says Matthew Blythe, senior director of retail operations and development. “The Mart’s dynamic character and community spirit offer the perfect backdrop for Goop’s newest location, aligning with our dedication to quality, community, and well-being.”

Ministry of Scent opens its second location on Fillmore Street—and she’s intoxicating.

It may be jewel-box sized but Ministry of Scent’s new Pacific Heights shop wafts with European-like grandeur. Known for its selection of not-found-everywhere niche fragrance brands, the retailer’s new boutique (and younger sibling to the beloved Valencia Street location) is truly stunning and chockablock with seductive scents and museum-worthy bottles. Among them: Fillmore-exclusive labels including fragrances from Mizensir, Matiere Premiere, Akro, Mancera, Montale, Marc Antoine Barrois, Megamere and more.
Designed by Mill Valley architect Richard Felix Ashman, the light-filled, 600-foot space features ornate, high ceilings and rich, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry. “Luxe library” is how store co-founder Antonia Kohl describes the overall aesthetic. And it’s spot-on.
Indeed, it’s time to check (and sniff) out some exceptional new scents. While this may be overwhelming, fear not…Ministry of Scent’s knowledgeable salespeople will help steer your nose in the right direction.
For her part, Kohl is thrilled with the new baby: “Fillmore Street offers a unique combination of opportunities for us—it's a different demographic of shoppers than our wonderful clientele in the Mission District. Plus, it’s home to multiple excellent perfume brands, with stores by Diptyque, Byredo, Le Labo and Aesop. With the arrival of Ministry of Scent, we like to think of Fillmore Street as San Francisco's "Fragrance Row.” The Pacific Heights customers have been welcoming and lovely to work with thus far,” she says.

Never pull your hair out again while trying to find and book a same-day appointment to tame those curls or paint your toes. San Francisco startup and online platform Salon Tonight makes it quick and easy with its proprietary software that aggregates tons of Bay Area salons and spas.
Founder Lana Bowen, a former SF hairstylist and salon owner, was moved to create what she calls the “Kayak for beauty” after years of listening to clients’ frustrations: “We got calls and texts daily from people looking for last-minute appointments. Many were calling 10-plus salons trying to find an appointment and then, ultimately, gave up because of how much time it took,” she says.
Indeed, ST’s streamlined process is as simple as choosing a location and desired service for that day or the next and, voila: A list of salons populates with appointment availability and essential info like open times slots, price and Yelp rating.
Currently, the search engine-cum-marketplace is available in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, Austin and Dallas—with more cities coming soon.
