ImagineNations Colors Our World with Decoupage Globes and Pictorial Wall Maps

Each month, San Rafael artist Wendy Gold painstakingly scours the Alameda Flea Market in search of vintage globes and wall maps for ImagineNations, the map-art studio she launched in 2010. Inspired by the decoupage mastery of John Derian, Gold layers old globes and maps with color-rich decorative elements, such as luggage labels, inspirational bons mots, and even the shaggy monsters from Where the Wild Things Are.

“What I love about old maps," says Gold, 41, whose professional career began with custom collages on toilet seats, “is that they remind us of our place in the world: how far we've come and where we want to go."

In the six years since launching ImagineNations, Wendy has expanded her brand to include recycled, hand-signed and numbered lithographs, wood bound canvas maps, and popular push pin maps—all of which can be customized. This month, Gold expands even more with a new gallery in San Anselmo. In addition to custom design services, the gallery also offers a selection of in stock, ready for purchase globes and maps, push pin maps, puzzles, boxes of writing cards, gift certificates, and globe Christmas ornaments for the holiday season. Perfect for the weekend warrior in your life. // 151 San Anselmo Ave. (San Anselmo), artonglobes.com
