Of the three most important social media apps available — Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram — the latter is by far the best. Not only does it give us the peace of mind that Facebook can no longer deliver (too many people addicted to being offended by absolutely everything), it comparatively eliminates the popularity contest of Twitter (verification is so very "we wear pink on Wednesdays"). Instagram's beauty is in its simplicity. Neither fuss nor muss. Just a tranquil stream of images to peruse. Instagram's new app, Layout, will make said stream even prettier.
Apps like this are nothing new, however. Juicy Bits has a similar app with the same name, Layout, that also allows users to create photo collages. But Instagram's version of app goes above and beyond its predecessor by being easy, breezy.
"Instagram being Instagram, its collage app—which was put together by a three-person team—emphasizes simplicity and elegance above all else," reports Fast Company. "It skips scads of features found in other such apps, such as stickers, filters, and support for videos."
The new Layout, however, does allow you to snap front-facing camera selfies via the Photo Booth, which captures four rapid shots. You can also flip panels to create a mirrored symmetry effect. Best of all, you can resize the columns or rows, and the collages are, mercifully, borderless.
Here are a few collages the 7x7 team created for your viewing pleasure.
Made using @Instagram's new #Layout app, released today for iPhone. I like.
