It’s So On: Fashion Feud Final Challenge

By

Five months in the making, the final Fashion Feud competition taking place tomorrow night at Mighty brings together three local designers for an on-stage style showdown – all of which unfolds before onlookers’ eyes in just an hour’s time.

Launched in September by fashion and art event producer Owen Geronimo, who’s also leading the charge to revive San Francisco Fashion Week, the Project Runway-inspired competition features the winners of the three previous rounds: Julia Meeks, Gail B. Shrive and Alexandria Von Bromssen.

Armed with a supply of fabric from Mood Fabrics New York (yes, the same emporium Project Runway designers raid each week) and a mere 60 minutes, the contestants sew while the clock ticks and local hair and makeup artists from the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology prep their models.

Since the stage is located in the middle of Mighty’s ample main room, onlookers can easily sidle up to watch the designers’ works-in-progress emerge from their work tables. But there are other diversions. Along with drinks from the cash bar, local vendors such as Edible Love Chocolates, Left Bank Shop and Intwined will be selling gifts, accessories and apparel for men and women during the event. Reps from the American Red Cross will also be on hand accepting donations to support relief efforts in Haiti.

When the hour is up, models slip into the designers’ hastily-made creations and hit a mini-runway while the audience assesses their work. Winners will be chosen by audience applause and the help of judges Bacca Da Silva, Olivia Ongpin and Amy LeBlanc.

Best of all, the event is free (and how often does that happen in fashion?). Doors open at 7 p.m.
