The best thing to do for Labor Day weekend? Stay put. There's more parking, fewer lines and, if the weather keeps up, sunshine to boot. Let everyone else stew in traffic.
As a Bernal Heights resident, here's my advised plan for a great Sunday:
Hamburgers are nice, but fried chicken is heaven. Call in an order of a bucket of fried chicken from The Front Porch, plus some sides like beans and rice, mac n' cheese and collard greens. Pick up a banana cream pie from Mission Pie. Grab a picnic blanket (maybe a wool throw if it's getting chilly) and a six-pack of 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon Wheat beer from the Whole Foods on 24th Street in Noe Valley and head to Precita Park.
There, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, you'll catch the closing night of the Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema, showcasing local filmmakers. Shows start at 7:30, but until then, the block party is about eating, drinking and enjoying a three-day weekend.
