Elisabeth Benson-Allot and Mark Rodrigo met in grad school at a '90s themed costume party. "Mark was dressed as an emo guy (think Pete Wentz), and I was a 90s business woman with shoulder pads galore," Benson-Allot remembers.
"A natural pairing, of course."
Once the couple were engaged—at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge, with their French bulldog, Ziggy, in tow—they knew they wanted wed in Tahoe, where they skied every winter and basked in the sun during summer. They found their venue at West Shore Cafe and Inn.
"The feeling is both rustic and elevated, and the view can not be beat," said the couple, who wanted to provide an authentic Tahoe experience for out-of-town family and friends.
While there was no set theme for the wedding, they wanted the weekend to feel personal. There were copious amounts of flowers in green and white, and a stellar bar. Decor was kept minimal to allow the waterfront views to shine. Ziggy walked down the aisle; a small bouquet was placed on a chair in the front row to commemorate the bride's late mother; and Rodrigo's brother, a poetry professor, officiated.
Afterwards, the pair made their way to the patio for their first dance, to CeeLo Green's "Old Fashioned."A romantic spread awaited inside with stone floors, a chandelier, glowing lanterns, and towering arched windows. A collection of long wooden tables were topped with eucalyptus runners. The night went on with cake cutting with Rodrigo's Air Force saber, limbo on the dance floor, and finally a jump into the lake.
