Forget to make Labor Day weekend plans? Here are some surefire, spur-of-the-moment ideas:
Sip vino in Sonoma. Celebrate the upcoming grape harvest by attending the epicurean weekend packed full of winemakers' dinners and tastings galore. Sonoma Wine Country Weekend runs from noon on Friday through 6 p.m. Sunday.
Catch some comedy. Some of San Francisco's finest comics will take the stage at the Comedy Club at Castagnola's at the Wharf both Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets are $19, but you can get 50 percent off by buying them online at Brown Paper Tickets and using the code "twitter." For more information on the headliners, visit Left Coast Comedy's website.
Get your art fix in Sausalito. More than 20,000 works of top-notch art--paintings, sculptures, photographs, jewelry, etc.—will be on display at this weekend's Sausalito Art Festival.
Head to the beach. This is the cheapest and easiest alternative of all: Get thee to thy beach. It may not be warm enough to sunbathe in a suit, but you can still enjoy the best the coast has to offer (Where is that Indian Summer anyway?). Considering Ocean will most likely be packed to the brim, we suggest heading south to Lindamar or the state beach in Pacifica, Montara State Beach or Grey Whale Cove, a protected inlet beneath Devil's Slide.
