Listen Up: Dirty Projectors, Death Cab for Cutie, Andrew Bird Play this Week

By

After a long, sun-filled weekend highlighted by scrumptious freedom fries, libations and fireworks overdoses, the city by the Bay remains fairly quiet. However, there are a few numbers stopping by that have us all sorts of excited. Check out our favorite picks for the week.

Dirty Projectors, The Independent, 7/7: Their newest album, Bitte Orca, has critics all up in a tizzy. Some are even whispering here and there about this possibly being the golden, “best album of the year,” and it’s only July. Well, whatever the album is being called, we’re in love and can’t wait to hear the charming harmonies and spastic guitar riffs in real life at The Independent tonight.

Hottub, 111 Minna, 7/11: One of 7x7’s “Bay Area Artists To Watch,” the fantastically 90’s-esque wild ladies will be hosting 111 Minna’s, Club 1992, an entire room of just 90’s R&B, hip-hop, and TRL hits. We couldn’t think of a more perfect place for them to shine.

Death Cab for Cutie, Andrew Bird and Ra Ra Riot, Greek Theatre, 7/11: This is pure genius on behalf of the organizer of this indie triple threat. Expect heart-wrenching Ben Gibbard tunes, impressive whistling techniques from Andrew Bird, and just general chaos from the very loveable, Ra Ra Riot. With all these dreamboats all in the same place, who knows what surprises may be in store…

Ra Ra Riot, Golden Gate Park, 7/12: Can’t get enough Ra Ra Riot? Or maybe you just didn’t want to pay the somewhat steep $42ish dollars to see them at the Greek Theatre the night before. Whatever the reason, these energetic twee-pop sweethearts will be playing a free, live acoustic show in the park from 9-10am. Check out SPINearth for the exact location.
