Oldies but goodies start and end the week, while a sprinkling of progressive hip-hop and the second annual Rock Make Street festival will be a nice warm-up for Outside Lands in t minus 10 days.  So buckle up kids, here we go.

Green Day & Franz Ferdinand, HP Pavilion, 8/18: Get your blast from the past here with these ex-punk revivalists turned pop-rockers on tour for the first time in three years for their brand new album 21st Century Breakdown. Openers are Scottish sensations Franz Ferdinand.

Eyedea & Abilities, Bottom of The Hill, 8/20: For over a decade these St. Paul, Minnesotans have kept their great successes under wraps and away from the devastating effects of the likes of MTV and VH1. If you’re in need of a good ol’ fashioned hip-hop fix, this is it.

Jedi Mind Tricks, Independent, 8/22: Even more senior, this fiery indie hip-hop group has been inspiring people with their very real, and most of the time disturbingly true stories of life’s lessons. Check them out for the grittier side of hip-hop.

Rock Make Street Festival, Treat Avenue between 17th & 18th St., 8/23: Once again our friends over at The Bay Bridged are bringing back the all day local music and crafts street fair. Peruse some local fashion vendors, listen in on some great local bands and mingle with some of the coolest kids in town. Some of the highlights include: Music For Animals, Geographer, Magic Bullets, Low Red Land, Two Sheds, The Ferocious Few, and many more.

Ted Leo + The Pharmacists, Bottom of the Hill, 8/23:Ted Leo, Bottom of the Hill, ‘nuff said.
