Listen Up: Steve Aoki, Built To Spill and The Dodos Take Over

By

With Halloween just in sight, all the creepy ghouls and goblins are coming out for special super late-night shows into the dawn. There will be DJ sets galore, so get your vampire fangs on and get ready to get down, we've got some amazing shows coming your way.

Steve Aoki, Vessel, 10/28: Whether or not you're familiar with Steve Aoki, we're positive you're well-acquainted with one of the artists he's founded or produced. He claims the likes of Bloc Party, Klaxons, The Kills, MSTRKRFT, and The Gossip in addition to being responsible for some of the most iconic remixes known to man. We're sure this is already sold out, but get your scalp on because this is a show definitely worth staying out past your bedtime for.

The Dodos, Bimbo's 365 Club, 10/29: Featured this year in our Hot 20, we love this energetic trio (and SF locals!!) for what they've brought to the new and quickly developing world of what might be called indie country. Their newest album, Time To Die, may in fact be one of our favorites from them thus far. Keep up with the hype and check out these guys before they start playing in venues you can't afford.

Regina Spektor, The Fox, 10/30: This Russian-born piano punk princess woos us with her alt-rock cool, yet keeps it far from the realm of quintessential angry chick rock star Fiona Apple. Although she was produced by the very same people, her raw lyrics and talent keep us on edge and in the zone, wherever her voice leads us.

Kraak & Smaak, Ghost Ship Treasure Island Hangar II, 10/31: Having first-hand partied down with this insane DJ duo at Bonnaroo's Silent Disco in the wee hours of the morn, let's just say they sure know how to make you shake it, and that was while we were all wearing headphones. Imagine what an off-the-beaten-path venue and some loud speakers can do. Did we just blow your mind? No? Get here, we know they will.

Built To Spill, The Fillmore, 10/31-11/1:
These undeniably talented indie vets just streamed their brand spanking new album, There Is No Enemy, free on their MySpace, working their fans into a frenzy of excitement. Then just to build us up even more, they announced their two-night stint at The Fillmore this Halloween weekend. I mean, who really needs to dress up when you can be a part of history? They're back story is written with the names of legends, their future is uncertain, and they surely won't be around forever. We guarantee this will be two unforgettable shows. The very thing stories are made of.
