Still recovering from Outside Lands? We know we are. Shake out your dusty festival shoes and drag them on down to these shows this week. They are definitely not to be missed.
Everest & Bhi Bhiman, Yoshi’s, 9/1: Despite mourning the loss of a recent band mate, Everest will absolutely be bringing it tonight at Yoshi’s. Add them to our favorite local singer/strummer, Bhi Bhiman and what you’ve got is the perfect bill. What’s not to love about a guy with a guitar, a great voice, a unique name, and his most famous song title being, “God is a Warriors fan and Satan loves the Lakers?“ Our point exactly.
Al Green, The Warfield, 9/2: There’s no better way to wind down from the weekend’s chaos than to reminisce and sing along with some of the most classic love songs of our time. The Reverend will no doubt be sporting a 3-piece suit as per usual. He’s also known to throw the occasional (ok, maybe 100) roses to the ladies in the crowd. It’s comforting to know that he’s still got it after all these years.
Mos Def & Erykah Badu, Davies Symphony Hall, 9/3: The queen of R&B and a multi-talented MC join forces on The Ecstatic Tour (named after Mos Def’s new album that just dropped in June). Known for being an actor, activist, and supporter of conscious hip-hop, Mos Def just passed the 10th anniversary of his monumental album, Black On Both Sides. The show isn’t just about him, and Badu is not one to disappoint either. Expect big soulful bellows and lots of familiar R&B jams. You probably won’t be able to stop yourself from dancing the entire night.
Scene Of Action, Fighting The Villain, Robots Of Fury, Bottom Of The Hill, 9/3: This Bay Area indie alt-rock trio comes equipped with a truck load of positive reviews and titles like “one of the Bay Area’s ten best new bands,” by Aaron Axelsen of Live 105. Lucky for us, Scene Of Action will be celebrating their album release for 20 Minute Hourglass at Bottom Of The Hill this Thursday with other fellow highly acclaimed Bay Area alt-rock bands Fighting The Villain and Robots Of Fury. This will definitely be the show to be at this week. We'll see you there.
