Fans of straight-forward style with subtle made-you-look details have a new reason to be over the moon on Sacramento Street.
Opened this month by former Banana Republic retail architect Christina Spaulding, Luna boutique stocks its racks with a mix of smaller labels and well-known names offering relaxed, sophisticated women’s apparel, including Heather, Autumn Cashmere, Prairie Underground, Cynthia Vincent, Velvet, Paul & Joe and Myne. There are also a few offerings from local sources such as women’s apparel by Turk + Taylor and jewelry from Circadian Studios and Ingrid Wheeler.
“No one I know is super trendy. They all like classic clothes, but they want to have a dress that no one else is wearing,” says Spaulding, who named the shop after her three-and-a-half-year-old rescue dog.
Along with an emphasis on versatile pieces with a touch of flair, Spaulding aims to make her boutique a relatively affordable retail destination on street that has a reputation for high price tags.
“I grew up in Presidio Heights where I have the store, and I was kind of disheartened by how expensive Presidio Heights had become to shop in,” Spaulding says.
Prior to opening the shop, Spaulding spent two months designing the interiors and revamping the space, previously home to Bettina. Lilac-gray walls and steel fixtures surround display tables of organic wood and walnut shelving, while a back garden area planted with azaleas, rhododendron and rosemary offers cushioned seats perfect for breaks in between visits to the dressing room.
See it for yourself at Luna, 3615 Sacramento St., 415-359-0198, www.lunaboutiquesf.com. Hours: Mon-Sat, 10:30 am-6:30 pm; Sunday 12-5 pm.
