As we celebrate Pride and its corresponding concepts of equality—people come in all shapes, sizes, types, and preferences—the folks at the Sonoma-Marin Fair remind us that the same is true for our pets: Not all dogs are created pretty.
Yesterday, at the fair's World's Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, a parade of positively hideous canines put their shaggiest paws forward to be crowned king of the ugly dogs. The winner: Quasi Modo, a 10-year-old pitbull-Dutch shepherd mix with multiple birth defects to his spine. When no one would adopt him because of his less-than-desirable looks, Quasi was rescued from a shelter by a veterinarian who could care for his special needs.
Take a gander at all the contestants at this years Ugliest Dog contest, which celebrates "the spirit and imperfections that make these dogs loveable and adoptable." #UglyIsBeautiful
