Meryl Pataky Makes Art From Rorschach’s Ink Blots

Meryl Pataky has made an art form of Rorschach’s iconic ink blots (of psychoanalysis fame).

Intrigued by the mirrored images, the Mission-based mixed media artist, who showed her work at Art Basel Miami Beach last December, has been experimenting with different drip methods and folding patterns to create her own version of the blots, which she sprinkles with astrological motifs in a nod to the cosmos and its unlimited prospects. “I adjust my expectations [for each work] depending on the behavior of the ink,” says Pataky. “A successful outcome is just proof that I can break through my limitations.”
