Halsey and Chicano Batman Take Oakland, Paco De Lucía Project Plays in the Mission + More Musical Happenings This Week

Relish in an eclectic blend of live musical events this week from soothing acoustic inflections to lively world music.

Kinna Grannis @ The Fillmore

Kinna Grannis is a rare, unflinching talent; her voice has profound way of dancing off a room's walls with abandon. And, not to mention, her covers of various pop-princesses are laudable, attached to viral postings sprinkled across various high-brow social media profiles. Come this Friday at The Fillmore, treat your cochleas to live musings from Billboard Chart topper's sophomore album, Elements, as she waxes and wanes poetic on her recent years of personal triumphant and social swirling that lent themselves to some of her strongest songwriting to date. // Friday, November 10th starting at 8pm at The Fillmore, 1805 Geary Blvd. (NoPa); tickets ($22-$37) can be bought on livenation.com

Halsey @ Oracle Arena

Hailing from the the quaint suburbs of New Jersey, Ashley Nicolette Frangipane—most well-known by her stage name, Halsey—will take Oracle Arena. The 23-year-old transcended the status-quo put forth by commercial labels, having self-released all her music via social media channels, simultaneously garnering her a healthy, devoted fan base while keeping those musical offerings free of charge. Halsey achieved heightened further success with the release of last year's top 40 staple"Closer," a collaboration with DJ duo The Chainsmokers, lending her second studio album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, to be more "radio friendly" than her prior releases. Regardless of whether you'd prefer the 2015 soul-churner Badlands or tend to side more with her bubble-gum pop of recent, you can catch her performing all her best ballads at Oakland's Oracle Arena this Tuesday evening. // Tuesday, November 7th at 8pm at Oracle Arena, 7000 Coliseum Way (Oakland); tickets ($29-$244) can be bought on ticketmaster.com

Sean Hayes @ The Chapel

Not to be confused with the like-named nineteen-something heartthrob, Sean Hayes—the deep-vibrato strumming folk musician—can be found reverberating his vocal cords through a set list that would make even the most hardened of individuals melt into putty. This Saturday, ready your mind, body, and soul to the melodious catharsis to emanate from the forefront stage at The Chapel. // Saturday, November 11th at 9pm at The Chapel; 777 Valencia (Mission District), ticketfly.com

Paco De Lucía Project @ Hearbst Theater

Latin music has had a recent resurgence in mainstream music in the past year or so, despite the White House's best efforts to erect a literal wall between us and our Mexican brethren. Created by 10-time Latin GRAMMY winning musician and producer Javier Limón, The Paco de Lucía Project reassembles the final band that toured with the legendary flamenco guitarist for the last 10 years of his career before his death in 2014. Sway and bob at the Herbst Theater come Tuesday evening, courtesy of the well-decorated ensemble. Buy your tickets quick; they're selling quickly. // Wednesday, November 8th at 8pm at Herbst Theater, 401 Van Ness Ave. (Mission); tickets ($30-$70) can be bought on sfjazz.org

Jaws of Love @ Cafe Du Nord

Kelcey Ayer—the keyboardist, songwriter, and lead vocalists behind Local Natives—has an innate way of penning (and later producing) musical works of art, sculpted from the malleable medium that is grim heartbreak. Now he's flying solo, debuting his newfound persona to Bay Area audiences this evening, as part of his Jaws of Love Tour. Ayer's piano strikes, accompanied by his soothing, shape-shifting vocal cadences, elicit a certain whimsy that few of his contemporaries can match. (Specifically, we're speaking to the sharp cornering, roundabout sounds echoed by his EP's fan-favorite hit, "Hawaiian License Plates," a near six-minute instrumental tour de force, marked by deep bass notes and assailing treble breaks.) Jaws of Love's debut act, Tasha Sits Close to the Piano—promptly named by Ayer's wife in honor of their Siberian Husky, Tasha—is already receiving well-earned acclaim from Billboard, Spin, and Paste alike, calling it a "floaty indie-rock grandeur." Jaws of Love's meticulously recorded ten-track offering, which Ayers calls his "truest self bout of self-expression yet," will be on full, live-played display tonight at Cafe Du Nord late—so buy your tickets quick before they sell out! // Thursday, November 9th at 7pm at Cafe Du Nord, 2174 Market St. (Mission Dolores); tickets ($16-$18) available on Eventbrite for purchase.

Chicano Batman @ Fox Theater

Coming out of our sister city to the South, is Chicano Batman. The LA band frequented off-the-wall clubs of downtown, dressed to the nines in vintage formalwear, and playing songs that blended Brazilian Tropicalía with early '70s psychedelic soul and the romantic pop of bands once prominent. Almost, immediately, their addictive sonic brewings amassed Chicano Batman a devoted fanbase, mere months after their first showing. Since forming eights years ago, Chicano Batman has released two full-length albums—a self-titled 2009 debut, and 2014's Cycles Of Existential Rhyme—and two EPs. The band, too, has played Coachella, and toured with Alabama Shakes and Jack White, among others. Now, they're making their boldest statement yet with Freedom Is Free, their third album and ATO Records debut—which they will be playing in-full at the Fox Theater this Friday evening. // Friday, November 10th at 8pm at Fox Theatre, 1807 Telegraph Ave. (Oakland); tickets ($30) can be bought on ticketmaster.com
