Move over, Pitchfork. SF-based mySpoonful recently launched a website and tri-weekly email newsletter that neatly packages new music for indie lovers lacking the time to sort through all the noise. Already boasting a dedicated Bay Area following, the site (which just launched nationally) is poised to become one of the best new music sources on the web this year.
Each newsletter highlights a single new artist and includes a free MP3 available for download. Expect music from all genres, with a focus on up-and-coming artists not yet in the mainstream. Says cofounder and CEO Dan Cohen, "mySpoonful is perfect for people who don't have a lot of time, but still want to keep up on new music. We're like the web version of the employee at the indie record store who always knows what new bands to listen to."
TechCrunch is calling it the DailyCandy of indie music and Zeitgeist Artist Management's Jordan Kurland (who manages She & Him and Death Cab for Cutie) says it's a great way to cut through all the clutter. The site's already featured Best Coast, Fol Chen, Birds & Batteries, and Yuck, to name a few. So, what are you waiting for? Check out the site and sign up for the newsletter here.
