These days you can bring your pup just about anywhere, and Napa is no exception. There are more than 90 dog-friendly wineries in the valley, with bowls of water and treats next to many a tasting room counter. Here's a list of some of my favorites, based on their attitude towards pups, overall experience and quality of wine.
Marston Family Vineyards is way up at the top of Spring Mountain but it’s worth making an appointment and getting off the beaten-path to enjoy this historic winery and their hand-crafted wines. Dog-friendly they certainly are, and you should make sure you are too, because you’ll likely be greeted by their rambunctious and friendly Lab, Tucker, who will take your dog on a tour of the vines while you meet the family and taste the wines.
St. Supery is directly off highway 29 but set back far enough to give you and your pup plenty of space to roam around before taking their self-guided tour. The tasting room has a few breakables, so I recommend buying your favorite bottle after a quick tasting and sitting at one of their comfortable tables outside in the shade with your dog and your friends.
Honig never disappoints, whether you are with or without dog. Youthful, laid back and stylish, Honig's tasting lounge is in the middle of a vineyard and comfortably set up for you and your furry friend.
Tres Sabores is friendly to dogs, sheep, Guinea hens and just about every other farm animal you can imagine. This family-owned winery is a celebrated leader in biodynamic farming. You’ll likely meet the owner and winemaker while you’re here, who will take you on a tour of their caves and introduce you to the farm animals before tasting in their barrel room or relaxing with a bottle at their vineyard picnic benches.
Pine Ridge is ushering in a new era with a celebrated new winemaker and all kinds of fun outdoor summer programs; including appellation tastings, cabernet tasting lessons and public picnic areas where you and your pup can relax and take in the mountainside beauty at this Napa Valley staple.
B Cellars is a new winery up in Calistoga with a ton of wines and a outdoorsy-feeling tasting room. I had the pleasure of attending a BBQ and tasting on the pond-side veranda recently, and although they may not have quite as much room for your pup to run around as some of the others mentioned here, you’ll find a welcoming and educated staff who is happy to entertain you and your furry family member.
Hall is dog-friendly and keeps most of their breakables out of paw’s reach. Right off the 29 and basically next door to pet-friendly Gott’s Roadside (formerly Taylors and featured in 7x7’s 100 Things to Eat+Drink Before You Die), Hall has a shaded outdoor area where you can taste their renowned and wide array of wines while admiring their sculptures, vineyards and well-designed grounds.
