Safia Mafia, the homegrown alternative soul singer who has been likened to Lana del Rey and Sza, exposes her Oakland roots in this month’s debut EP, “Pure.”
“People who aren’t from Oakland will be able to vibe to it, but the shout outs I’m giving in the lyrics will definitely draw a knowing smile from everyone who grew up there,” says the vocalist about her ode, “Box Chev,” in which she sings, “580 to the east, just my old man and me.”
