Pulitzer Prize-Winning Play "A Delicate Balance" Comes to Berkeley's Aurora Theatre

By

American playwright Edward Albee, perhaps best known for his theatrical productions of The Zoo Story, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and Lolita, brings his Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning A Delicate Balance to Aurora Theatre.

The dark drama, which first premiered on Broadway in 1966, centers around loss of sanctuary, comfort, and sanity. Agnes and Tobias offer their house as refuge for
others, but tension quickly ensues as friends and family bring their own emotional baggage into the couple’s home. Lifelong family friends, Agnes’ alcoholic sister, and Agnes and Tobias’ recently divorced daughter overstay their welcome and begin to threaten already fragile relationships. As the characters’ facades disintegrate, the audience is exposed to the complexities of human behavior. Bonus:Arion Press’ limited edition run of Albee’s signed script book is available for purchase at the theater.

Sept. 2–Oct. 9; Aurora Theatre, 2081 Addison (at Shattuck), Berkeley, 510-843-4822.
