Options of Operatic Proportions
This weekend, the San Francisco Opera Costume Shop opens its Potrero Hill doors just in time for Halloween (and only the fourth time in its history) during a public sale of costumes, accessories, shoes, hats, masks, fabric and memorabilia from past productions.
Along with handmade period costumes for men, women and children, the sale also features one-of-kind collectibles such as hand-painted kimonos used in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and 18th-century ensembles from Massenet’s Manon. Prices range from $1 to $750. A special Opera Luminaries Collection includes clothing and accessories worn by famous performers from Beverly Sills to Luciano Pavarotti.
Proceeds from the sales benefit San Francisco Opera. The sale takes place Saturday, Oct. 24, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 800 Indiana St.
