Every year, as the holidays approach, we take some time to acknowledge the many local nonprofits that bestow varied gifts upon our community. Now in it's sixth year, San Francisco's Favorite Charity Contest, presented by PG&E and 7x7, asks you, our readers, to tell us which Bay Area do-gooders make this a better place to live. From human rights activists to environmental crusaders, we want to hear about the people and organizations you believe are making an impact. What are you waiting for? Get nominating!

We've received thousands of nominations and votes over the years in support of the myriad charities that call the Bay Area home. Once we've collected your nominations, we'll present the top 49 charities for a vote to determine your top seven finalists. Then, we'll call on you to vote one last time: All seven finalists will receive $2,000 from PG&E; the winning charity will net a cool $10,000 and serious props at a festive event in their honor.
