Sewing for Dudes and DIY Windowboxes at Workshop

By

The DiY movement continues to grow, and as it does more and more of us are becoming interested in taking up a craft or hobby that involves a little skill and some hand-eye coordination–other than Wii bowling, of course. But with hectic work schedules, commuting, or just sheer laziness (here!), sometimes it's hard to set your nose to the grindstone and actually make it happen. We want to learn some new skills while having a little fun too, you know? Enter Workshop, the new DiY classroom brought to you by the folks behind Indie Mart's monthly shopping events. Located at Baker and McAllister, Workshop's digs include a silk-screening facility, sewing machines, and lots of other tools needed to get creative with your crafting. Best of all, the offered classes range from more intense multi-day courses to fun one-offs like Mad Men Cocktail Mixing, and a regular Tuesday night ping-pong league. This week, have a bro-down while learning how to customize your gear at Wednesday's Rock & Roll Sewing for Dudes. No penis? No problem! Stop by Saturday instead for their Wooden Window Box Workshop (try saying that three times fast) and start sprucing up your sad balcony, stat. Sign up for their newsletter to get the full list of upcoming classes, or just follow the website to see what's coming up. Don't see anything that tickles your crafting fancy? Check out more classes available throughout the city in our art and design class round-up.
