Sfgirlbybay's Stylish Seven: Bit of Britain

By

Pip, pip...cheerio and all that! In this week's Sfgirlbybay's Stylish Seven we're off to London Town! I found the airfares to the United Kingdom are quite affordable these days, so I'm in the midst of planning a May trip to London. So, in that spirit, I thought I'd share a bit of the brilliant and stylish Brits with you today.

1. Want to plan a trip for yourself and don't want to stay in a pricey and impersonal hotel? Try out Home Away Vacations. We were able to find this charming pink two-bedroom flat on Portobello Road at a much more reasonable rate than a nightly hotel, and it has a kitchen, so not every meal need be eaten out in an expensive restaurant. A home away from home, indeed!

2. Craving a bit of Britain, but can't make the trip? Take a trip to Londontown online with homewares and accessories from famed British designer Cath Kidston. The online shop carries beautiful oilcloth aprons, placemats and travel bags as well fabrics, clothing and charming tea sets in pretty floral bone china. Cath Kidston brings that girlie high tea home!

3. If you like to try high tea here at home in San Francisco, drop in to Crown & Crumpet, a fairly new English tea room that recently opened in the newly renovated historic Ghiradelli Square. You'll be treated like royalty by the very charming Amy and Christopher Dean, proprietors of Crown & Crumpet. The tea sandwiches are just yummy, and the servings are quite generous and delicious!

4. How about bringing a bit of thoroughly mod British design to your home? Brit designer Karen Hilton has a wonderful line of Union Jack Pillows in her etsy shop, made from thick calico and high quality bright and colorful felted wool. And, be sure to bow down to her pillow line featuring beautiful silhouettes of the Queen Mum at her finest!

5., 6. & 7. It's a mod, mod, mod, mod world! I searched out more of etsy and discovered 1960's British flair popping up everywhere. The more the economy dives, the more these posters resonate with everyone. Keep Calm & Carry On, my line of reproduction WWII posters originally designed for London's 1940's Blitz are hand silk-screened in bright cheery colors. Brighten up your dower days with these modern pillows in swirls of vibrant pink, orange, red, green and yellow from Eliza Leigh. And, I love these Queen Anne Chair Cards from designer Annechovie. Beautiful set of 8 notecards/envelopes features 2 different chairs from the Annechovie Chair Collection.
