Some cool stuff going down this weekend at White Walls Gallery and Shooting Gallery. Their spring exhibits are debuting and once again, the galleries are playing host to an exciting array of works from emerging local artists.
New Territory at White Walls pays homage to the Left Coast with new works from Henry Gunderson, Akira, Cheryl Molnar, Robert Burden and Mark Warren Jacques. This is a crew with a rep for breaking ground through their new conceptual and aesthetic approach of West Coast living. It's definitely worth checking out - the works incorporate comics, notebook doodles, skateboard culture and collages.
Meticulous Engagement, the new exhibit at the Shooting Gallery, is all about the details, featuring the labor intensive sculptures of Kris Kuski and Christy Langer. Kuski's gothic-end-of-the-world-art-nouveau relief is a must-see. Equally impressive are Langer's immaculate animal figurines and “manipulated avatars” – wolves that scream to birds looking quizzically mangled. It's not cute, but it's impressive.
