Dreidel Spin Off at the Contemporary Jewish Museum
Tonight, on the second night of Hanukkah, the 2009 Major League Dreidel Spinagogue Champion will host a a spin off at the Contemporary Jewish Museum as part of a special Hanukkah edition of RitLab. Despite the obvious disadvantage of not being Jewish, John Heywood eked out victory with an impressive 16-second spin last year. The title is now up for Jews and gentiles alike. Plus, there will be artisanal chocolate-making and sampling of fair-trade Hanukkah gelt. As Major League Dreidel says, "No Gelt, No Glory!" $5; 12/2, 6 - 8 p.m., Contemporary Jewish Museum, 736 Mission St., thecjm.org

Flash Sale of Tales of the City Tickets
If you're not familiar with Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City, you can't call yourself a true San Franciscan. Three decades after the author penned his iconic San Francisco saga detailing the lives and loves of Mary Ann, Mouse, Mona, Brian, and their beloved landlady, Mrs. Madrigal, the stories come back home in the form of a momentous new musical from the Tony Award–winning creators of Avenue Q (Jeff Whitty and Jason Moore) and glam-rock phenomenon the Scissor Sisters. Be the first to get tickets to A.C.T.'s highly anticipated world premiere. The flash sale goes live 12/5 at 10 a.m. and ends 12/9 at 11:59 p.m. on A.C.T.'s website, and performances for the 5/17 - 6/19 run are expected to sell out quickly.

SF Arts Commission Lights Up Central Market with 3 Installations
This is the perfect one-two punch if you're planning on buying Tales of the City tickets. At 5 p.m. on 12/9, the SF Arts Commission will turn on three site-specific art installations in front of the A.C.T. building located at 1119 Market St. as part of its official kickoff of The ARTery Project, which is dedicated to the revitalization of the Central Market corridor. The "exhibit," on view for six months, features works by three internationally-recognized light artists, two of whom (Theo Watson and Jim Campbell) will be present for impromptu art talks. People are encouraged to come adorned in or carrying their own lights to illuminate the streets. There will also be art openings at The Luggage Store, Hospitality House, and Gray Area Foundation for the Arts.
