This is the ultimate artist's sanctuary.
The Donald & Helen Olsen House is both a City of Berkeley Historic Landmark and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1954 as the architect's own home, the space has a warm, mid-century modern vibe with large, sweeping views of the greenery surrounding the property. The home was created as a demonstration project as Olsen's own "machine for living in a garden." Like a crystal box amongst treetops, all of the exterior walls are glass, while wood beams and steel poles support the structure throughout. An art studio downstairs that served as Helen's painting haven, completes the space.
