One story getting an extra topping of attention is the upcoming performance by Macaulay Culkin’s pizza-themed Lou Reed/ Velvet Underground cover band, The Pizza Underground. Mac is back, but it could turn into a food fight/ turf war since he’s coming right into Personal and the Pizza’s neck-of-the-woods. SPIN magazine called the Bay Area’s original pepperoni-loving tough guys “San Francisco pizza-punk heroes.” When Personal got wind of the project, he had some fighting words for the former child actor. We’ll have to wait and see if he’s serious and puts the brass knuckles where his mouth is. [via KQED Pop]
Technically this announcement came last week, but it’s worth mentioning: Burger Records beat Coachella to the punch with their Burgerama III lineup happening March 22 & 23 in Santa Ana. Some Bay Area acts include; The Dwarves, Nobunny, Oakland’s Pookie and The Poodlez and Shannon and The Clams. Detroit ‘70s proto-punks Death are a pleasant surprise and the curve-ball addition of hip hop’s Kool Keith adds a nice touch. Rather than melt in the desert watching Outkast, you can party indoors for a completely different experience. [via OC Weekly]
Over in Oakland, record store and label 1-2-3-4 Go! Records keeps on growing. This little brick and mortar that could is looking to expand and has set up an indiegogo page to help fund raise. The call to action would not only help preserve the all-ages venue in the back of the store, but would give them the space needed to spread out and take over the neighboring suite. A grand re-opening party is slated for their 6th anniversary in March, but you can catch the Younger LoversJan. 24 at an intimate record-release show. [via social media land]
Lastly, if you’re in the mood to get miserable, Bay Area artist Kristina Esfandiari is putting out a new EP, Halloween Dream, under her Miserable moniker. You might know her as a former vocalist with shoegaze band, Whirr, or for having released “dark folk” material under the name, King Woman. However you come to know her, you’ll discover her work has an enchanted quality. The release comes out February 18. You can preorder here. [via Brooklyn Vegan]
