By

Exhibit
Barry McGee
For decades, artist Barry McGee has used the city of San Francisco as his personal canvas under the tag name "Twist." Now his work has found a temporary home at the Berkeley Art Museum. Don't be surprised to find rarely seen etchings and letterpress printing trays on display. The renowned graffiti artist and SF Art Institute alum still has a few tricks up his sleeve.
When: Exhibit through Sun. 12/9
Where: Berkeley Art Museum, 2626 Bancroft Way, Berkeley

Film
Contagion and Panic in the Streets
Put your fear in high gear. Science and film collide as the Global Threats Film Series continues at the San Francisco Film Society. Steven Soderbergh's Contagion and Elia Kazan's Panic in the Streets remind us of how quickly a deadly disease can become a global pandemic. Learn more from Mark Smolinski, Director of Global Health Threats with the Skoll Global Threats Fund and a consultant on Contagion, when he dives into the science behind the 2011 thriller directly after the screening.
When: 4 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 9:15 p.m., Tues. 8/28
Where: SF Film Society Cinema, 1746 Post St.

Music
Desaparecidos with Conor Oberst
Desaparecidos fans finally get their chance to see the reunited rock group (featuring Conor Oberst) perform after a ten year break. The band did manage to get their feet wet back in 2010, when they played at The Concert for Equality in their hometown of Omaha. Look out for new tracks "MariKKKopa" and "Backsell" when they hit the stage along with The Velvet Teen at The Regency Ballroom.
When: 8 p.m., Wed. 8/29
Where: The Regency Ballroom, 1300 Van Ness Ave.

Art
"Field Conditions"
Art knows no boundaries in SFMOMA's latest exhibition. Literally. "Field Conditions" explores how the lines between conceptual art and theoretical architecture blur and allow the viewer to look beyond what's in front of them. The show includes works by Tauba Auerbach, Sol LeWitt, and Daniel Libeskind.
When: Sat. 9/1 – Sun. 1/6/13
Where: SFMOMA, 151 Third St.

Celebration
Self Edge Anniversary Party
Listen up, gentlemen. We know Self Edge is the best place to buy a pair of dark denim jeans, that's why we had to let you in on the secret (see "Forever Blue" in our September issue). The go-to denim boutique celebrates its sixth year with a renovated space (don't worry, the Velocette Motocycle is still in the window) and an anniversary party to boot. Make sure to take advantage of the rare 12% off sale happening at all locations and online Fri. 8/31 – Sun. 9/2.
When: 6-10 p.m., Sat. 9/1
Where: Self Edge, 714 Valencia St.

Festival
Architecture and the City Festival
The nation's largest architecture festival is back, just in time for the long weekend. AIA San Francisco's Architecture and the City celebrates local design and gets you inside access to some of the most contemporary residences in the city. Think the EDDIE House and Bernal Tower. The "Design: It's About Time" theme certainly lends itself to the curious, with city tours, lectures, and workshops happening all month long.
When: Sat. 9/1-Sun. 9/30
Where: Various venues

Music
The Pharcyde at Yoshi’s
Don't let The Pharcyde pass you by when they stop through the bay this Labor Day weekend. The South Central rappers have come a long way since their days dancing on In Living Color. And they've got a gold record to prove it.
When: 9:30 p.m., Sun. 9/2
Where: Yoshi's, 1330 Filmmore St.
