Augmented reality, nano-engineered painting, data-driven installation: Art and tech collide at the ZERO1 Biennial, a Bay Area-wide program that debuts cutting-edge exhibitions, performances, and panels emphasizing new media. Recently expanded from a Silicon Valley-centric roster of talent, this year's biennial includes collaborations between Alonzo King's LINES Ballet and renowned new-media artist Jim Campbell. X-ray glasses not included.

"A Survey of Documentary Styles in Early 21st Century Photobooks"
Like to take pictures? Learn how to create your own professional quality book and mingle with some of the best photographers in the business at Carte Blanche. The gallery and bookstore gears up to host the 3rd Indie Photobook Library feature-length exhibition, curated by Darius Himes of the Fraenkel Gallery and iPL founder Larissa Leclair. Take advantage of three days of workshops and lectures while exploring "A Survey of Documentary Styles in Early 21st Century Photobooks."

Roll old school at Polaroid SF's anniversary party. The photo-a-day photography project celebrates its first year as a website with a one-night exhibition at 111 Minna Gallery. Headlands Center for the Arts' 30th Anniversary
The Headlands Center for the Arts celebrates the big 3-0 with a series of workshops, performances, and events, including a blowout birthday bash on Sept. 15. James Bond wannabes should sign up for "Covert Operations: Hacking the Landscape" (Sept. 7-12), where you'll laser-scan forests, deploy infrared night-vision cameras, and build a fleet of drones to map the Marin Headlands from above.

"Design: It's About Time" is the theme of September's month-long Architecture and the City Festival, where film screenings, exhibitions, and lectures will be presented by the Center for Architecture + Design and the American Institute of Architects' SF chapter. Home tours on the 15th and 16th are big draws for voyeurs, as is behind-the-scenes access to such public spaces as the new Heath ceramics factory and Southern Pacific Brewery in the Mission.
