St. Vincent, Tune-Yards, Real Estate, Etc.
On Tuesday 4/24, chanteuse St. Vincent takes the stage at the Fox with the Bay Area's very own Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards. This is one show you don't want to miss. On the same night, Brooklyn by way of Jersey boys Real Estate bring their indie sound fresh from the stages at Coachella to Great American Music Hall. Fast forward to Friday 4/27 for SF electro pop band Loquat's cd release party at the Independent. This one's for the locals. And then on Saturday 4/28, actor turned musician John C. Reilly (you'll remember him in everything from Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story to Magnolia) hits up Bimbo's for a show with Becky Stark and Tom Brosseau.

Litquake Epicenter
The next event in Litquake's Epicenter series at Tosca is lit mag ZYZZYVA's new spring issue (the largest yet with a special section on Mexico's drug war) release party co-presented by City Lights Books.

SFMOMA Modern Ball
Wednesday marks the biggest art bash of the year, but if you can't afford the $500 ticket to SFMOMA's Modern Ball, you can still join for the Post-Modern Party, which is much better suited for the 30-something crowd anyway. The ticket will only set you back about $100, and it's the perfect afterparty to Pop-Up Magazine's latest issue (that is, if you were lucky enough to get tix before they sold out in a number of minutes!).

Mikhail Baryshnikov In Paris
The famed dancer and choreographer shows off his acting chops in Berkeley Rep's production of In Paris, a bittersweet love story based on the writings of Nobel Prize winner Ivan Bunin. If you're a Baryshnikov fan, this is one of those rare chances to see him up close and personal.

John Waters
Peek inside the mind of the cult film director (Pink Flamingos, Hairspray). at CCA. The man himself speaks about his colorful career following a screening of the 2004 film A Dirty Shame, a twisted flick about suburban sex addicts, starring Tracey Ullman, Chris Isaak, and Selma Blair.

Academy of Art University's Atelier series presents the work of graduating students and recent alumni. Think of it almost like open studios meets gallery exhibition. On view now are colorful works by Sarupa Sidaarth and Suzanne Taylor.

SF Int'l Beer Fest
If you're lucky, you'll be able to snag a last-minute cancellation to the 29th annual SF International Beer Festival. Hundreds of brewers including Dogfish Head, Sierra Nevada, Ommegang, and New Belgian will be sampling unlimited suds.

SF Decorator Showcase

Perhaps the city's poshest fundraiser, the annual SF Decorator Showcase reads like a who's who of interior designers. Ogle over rooms by such local stars as Geoffrey De Sousa and Matt Murphy. Proceeds benefit University High School's financial aid program.

Elizabeth Gilbert
Bestselling author Elizabeth Gilbert is in town promoting her latest. At Home on the Range (McSweeney's Publishing) is a cookbook originally written by her great-grandmother. The new edition—a perfect gift for any foodie—contains usable recipes along with a good dose of Gilbert's signature humor.
