We’re not going to try and fight you on this one; Inverness is kind of in the middle of nowhere. The winding drive on Highway 1 out to this Tomales Bay-adjacent town is mostly definitely worth it, though. Check out this free, community fair on Saturday from 9 am-3 pm, featuring a pancake breakfast, book sale, local musician, and of course, oysters. Since the town is about a mile long from start to finish, take advantage of the fact that you’re all the way out in the boonies and keep driving to the Point Reyes Lighthouse. It keeps getting prettier, and you'll see more cows than you can count. The views of the coast are unparalleled. Did we mention there are oysters for sale?
San Rafael Food & Wine Festival
Anytime an event involves the concept of food and wine, we’re already sold. Add the fact that this festival features wine tastings from 25 regional boutique wineries around the San Rafael area, and we're goners. The event, running on Saturday from 1-5 pm, is hosted in the historic Falkirk Cultural Center. A Victorian mansion space that has a whole lot of lawn means there's more than enough space to watch chef demos while noshing on offerings from local restaurants. The views of Mt. Tam while you eat and drink aren’t anything to complain about either. Tickets are $30 at the door and $25 in advance here.
There are few things better than spending an evening meandering through Marin’s rolling hills, but s’mores are definitely one of them. Good thing this trek through Mount Burdell Open Space preserve on Saturday from 6-8 pm offers both of those things. The evening culminates in a campfire with all the essentials: storytelling, sing-a-longs, and a little bit of history about the surrounding area to keep you thinking. We feel like we’re back at summer camp.
