Third Annual Battle of the Bay
Unless you’ve been living under a rock or happen to be allergic to outdoor activities, you know what a cult craze stand up paddleboarding has become in the Bay Area. It’s practically a religion, and we’re guessing that you probably fancy yourself a novice paddler of sorts. Get your vicarious thrills or actually participate this weekend, in this race that launches from the picturesque McNears Beach in San Rafael. Make a weekend of it and camp at the adjacent campground. Course distances range from two miles to ten, and there’s a $10,000 cash prize. If that’s not incentive, we don’t know what is. Register online here or at 8 am Saturday and Sunday. Races go all day.
In our wildest dreams, we live in Tiburon. The city and Bay views make any real estate junkie drool. For now, we'll just get our kicks by taking home a painting of the spectacular view. The Art Row portion of the festival features 60 local artists who have been selected by Kiril Jeliazkov, Jean Pierre Rives and Lauren Driver. Even if art isn’t your biggest thing, the food trucks and view from Ark Row are 100 percent worth it. Tickets are $10 at the door and free for children. Saturday and Sunday from 11 am-5 pm.
Unframed Freedom at Mine Gallery Fairfax
We love art openings ,especially when they’re in Fairfax, the little gem of a town in west Marin. Drop by Saturday evening for a reception of an eclectic and stunning show featuring pieces from local Oakland artist Bob Stang, Nepalese-turned-Bay-transplant Sunila Bajracharya, and Fairfax resident Richard Dieterich. The show has great range, showcasing Stang’s propensity for images of the American West next to Bajracharya and Dieterich, who take on the nuances of the human form. Plus, The Avengers is playing in Creek Park in San Anselmo down the road, so go ahead and make your night a double feature. Reception goes from 6-9 pm.
