Though twerking might be dead on the dance floor at your nearest 18-&-over club, it's alive and popping at Hot Spot Yoga Oakland. The recently opened yoga/fitness studio now offers last year's most popular dance move in convenient barre class form.
The new class is, according to Hot Spot Yoga, "dedicated to ur ass." They go on to add, "Bouncy, luscious, curvy, juicy, high and lifted, round and gifted, big and small, we'll work em all." They'll tone and tighten and stretch and strengthen your butt simply by having you shake it.
"This barre class looks more like a twerkshop and just might be followed by a studio-sanctioned drink," says studio's owner and lead instructor Adesina Dowers.
Barre Booty Pop, brain child of instructor Cera Byer, is held every Wednesday at 7pm and Saturday morning at 9am.
But if mimicking Miley Cyrus isn't your idea of a good sweat, Hot Spot Yoga Oakland also offers Hot Fire Flow, a one-hour musical journey/workout set to the score of classics on vinyl. Past classes have included TLC’s CrazySexyCool, Wu-Tang Clan’s 36 Chambers: Enter The Wu-Tang, RNB Dedication (R. Kelly and Beyonce), and Erykah Badu’s Baduizm.
Now is it too much to ask for someone to start a Michael Bennett-inspired musical theater sweat class?
