Two Art Events Worth Your Time: It's All A Blur + Garage Biennale Book Release

By

Justin Hoover, artist and curatorial genius at SOMArts, has big news:
His Garage Biennale Book ($40), funded in large part by Southern Exposure's alternative exposures grant, is finally complete. The catalog illustrates a collection of shows, each one night only, by a group of artists exploring the temporality of art production. This week, you have two chances to get the book in person before it's gone—only 250 copies were printed and each features hand-adhered vinyl lettering on the cover. It's the perfect holiday gift for your art-loving friend or the perfect collectible for your coffee table.

On Thursday 12/9, head to SOMArts (934 Brannan St.) for the opening of It's All A Blur (Dec. 9-Jan. 28) featuring work by Dale Hoyt, Guillermo Gómez-Peña, and Tony Labat. The exhibit is set to tour the western states and is funded on a major grant from the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF), the California Arts Council and the San Francisco Arts Commission. Come see the show and learn more about some amazing public programming components, including a field trip to a target range to shoot with artist Tony Labat as well as a performance extravaganza in January featuring the Gómez-Peña's La Pocha Nostra international performance troupe.

Then, on Saturday 12/11, you can hobnob with more of the city's most cutting-edge artists and performers at the book release party at Queen's Nails Projects (3191 Mission St.) on from 7-10 p.m.
