Erin and Brody Barrett met at a bonfire in high school—you could say there were sparks.
More than 10 years later, while the couple was wine tasting with family and friends at Domaine Carneros in Napa, Brody got down on one knee, a grand gesture that was somewhat unexpected. "Brody is very private," says Erin, who never imagined such a public display. The day would inspire the feeling for their eventual wedding day: "We wanted our wedding to feel feminine, relaxed, and romantic."
The couple kept with a vineyard theme, selecting Livermore Valley's picturesque Wente Vineyards for their ceremony and reception. A light-up marquee-style sign of their initials announced the event and also served as a remembrance of Erin's late father—the sign was created using his tools; this was his "gift" to them.
Their event was swathed in a sweet neutral palette, with bouquets of blooming blush peonies, white roses, and eucalyptus. Ivory candles, faceted pink goblets, and touches of gold in the place settings and on the three-layer wedding cake added a bit of sparkle.
The couple exuded easy California glamour, Erin in an embroidered lace gown with a plunging neckline, Brody and his groomsmen in dark grey suits. The bridesmaids' pale pink dresses echoed the florals.
For the ceremony, they kept it simple, with a single sash hanging over the arch and lanterns placed along the petal-strewn aisle. In the most meaningful moment of the entire day, the couple walked, on all four legs, down the aisle together: See, Brody had lost one of his legs in an accident a few years ago. "While he was in the hospital, I remember wondering if we would ever get the chance to walk down the aisle side-by-side," Erin said. The couple made it happen.
Erin adds a reminder for couples on their wedding day: "Have fun! This is the beginning of your new life together—enjoy every moment, because the day goes by so fast and it's over before you know it."
