We're resurrecting an old series: Weird Art in Bars, in which we explore the wacky adornments on the walls of the city's favorite and under-the-radar watering holes.
White Horse Tavern & Restaurant in Hotel Beresford is modeled after a traditional Old English Pub and audaciously named after the very spot that poet Dylan Thomas frequented in New York City (it was the last place he drank before dropping dead at age 39). Creaking floor boards, wood-lined walls and cartoonish prints of English country life line the walls, next to old replicas of rifles and other hunting equipment (a crossbow!). Sure, you're on Sutter Street smack dab in the middle of downtown San Francisco, but you could also be in a small British village....confusing ain't it? The best part about this watering hole is that the bartenders are friendly and they serve free hot dogs with condiments and popcorn until 9 pm every night. Talk about a recession special.
