Notice anything different? That's right, we've got a new look. Please allow us a moment to flaunt it.
Just over a year ago, we here at 7x7 turned the page to a new chapter in our business: from a 15-year-old, well-loved monthly print magazine to a thoroughly modern digital publisher. The transition was a no-brainer. We simply put our focus where our half-million readers already were—on 7x7.com.
But the trouble with being a super-modern tech-driven publisher was having a publishing platform that was built in the Internet Stone Age, waaay back in 2006 (yep, 7x7 was an early adopter of the online publishing thing). Our blogroll format, once so cutting edge and later de rigueur, became dated in the face of more agile, mobile- and social-friendly platforms, as well as difficult to use—both for you, our dear patient readers, and for us, the editors who dutifully gritted our teeth through a glitchy old CMS in a constant effort to bring you up-to-the-minute Bay Area stories and happenings.
Fast forward through months of painstaking R&D and we are now delighted—nay, giddy, tickled pink, over the moon, and a little bit proud—to introduce the new and vastly improved 7x7.com, in collaboration with the fine folks at RebelMouse—the wicked amazing, highly optimized, and totally intuitive platform that powers our favorite site ever, The Dodo, as well as a few others you may have heard of (Paper, Spotify, Time Inc., and more).
Not only is our new site prettier to look at (bigger pictures! working slideshows!), it is also better organized (now by Bay Area region to help you find things to do based on where you really live, work, and play); loaded with nifty features (quizzes! polls! videos! gifs! and so many more new things to come!); optimized for reading on your desktop, smartphone, and tablet; and designed for easy sharing of the stories and photos you like via your chosen social networks.
While we believe this new iteration of 7x7 will help us continue to grow and evolve with rapidly changing times, our ultimate goal is to improve your experience not just of 7x7 but of life here in the Bay Area—our mission is to put the best of the region right at your fingertips, no matter where you roam.
