Visitors spending even the shortest amount of time in California quickly see with their own eyes that it's hard to beat a California sunset. With backdrops that include rolling hills, rugged cliffs, and vast, sandy beaches, California sunsets rank among the best in the world. San Diego is no exception. Today we feature a few of the best places to watch the sunset in San Diego. 

1. Cusp Restaurant. What's better then watching a San Diego sunset? Watching a San Diego sunset with a craft cocktail in hand. That's exactly what you'll get at Cusp, a new La Jolla restaurant located on the 11th floor of the Hotel La Jolla. While it's a notable locale for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, Cusp's view come happy hour is hard to beat as visitors wash down $1.50 oysters and ceviche with creative handcrafted cocktails, such as the aptly named "Ron Burgundy." Call ahead to try to grab a table by the window or enjoy a few bites and drinks in the lounge as you watch the sun drop behind La Jolla and the Pacific Ocean.

2. Sunset Cliffs. While I doubt we caught you off guard with this one, it's hard not to include a place that is so appropriately named. Located in the Point Loma community of San Diego, there are several prime viewing spots, including Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. Surfers may enjoy catching a few waves prior to sunset, as the beach is a popular surf spot with experienced locals.

3. La Jolla. A favorite locale among locals and visitors, it's hard to dispute the beauty of La Jolla, with its curved coastline lined with ocean bluffs. Grab a spot on the shoreline and you may be joined by a group of seals to take in the sunset. For a more unique experience, rent a kayak or longboard for a sunset paddle. There are several green spaces in La Jolla that make for good spots to have a picnic while you watch the sun dip behind the horizon.

4. Pick a beach. Pick a beach, any beach in San Diego and you'll have prime viewing come time for sunset. If you want a livelier ambiance, then head to one of the beaches closest to San Diego. If you want to take in a sunset while cruising down a boardwalk, then spend the evening at Mission Beach. And if you want something more low-key and intimate, head further north.
