Your 2013 Guide to Pride

Your 2013 Guide to Pride

By

This weekend is jam-packed with Pride-centric must-dos. Don't get lost in the fray! Use our guide to keep your schedule straight (no pun intended).

Entertainment
Pride NightLife at Cal Academy
How apropos—the California Academy of Sciences will share their knowledge of sex-changing fish right before SF Pride Weekend. Carol Queen and Dr. Robert Lawrence, co-founders of the Center for Sex and Culture, will be giving a talk titled "Seven Billion Sexual Orientations." There's also a drag performance and "transpecies" costume contest. Entertainment will be provided by San Francisco icon Juanita MORE! plus DJ Pink Lightning and DJ Rapid Fire of Stay Gold.
When: 6 - 10 p.m., Thurs., 6/27
Where: California Academy of Sciences, 55 Music Concourse Dr.

Drag Show

Be'Dazzled
There aren't many better ways to celebrate diversity than by going to see the Be'Dazzled drag show at The Bubble Lounge this Friday. According to Bubble Lounge, there will be more Champagne than you could imagine.
When: 9 p.m., Fri., 6/28
Where: The Bubble Lounge, 714 Montgomery St.

Dance
The House of Babes
After you've marched for social justice at the SF Dyke March, it's time to dance for social justice. This Dyke March afterparty will benefit local queer organization LYRIC. Plus, you'll benefit from the opportunity to shake it to top 40, hip hop, bmore, bounce, and ballroom house for eight hours before taking a quick nap before the SF Pride Parade.
When: 7 p.m., Sat., 6/29
Where: Public Works, 161 Erie St.

Dance
Country-Western Pride Dance
There's probably no better way to loosen up than to go barn dancing with Sundance Saloon, the Bay Area's LGBT Country-Western dance resource. There's dancing at Pride, too, and line dancing lined up for the Pride aftermath to remind you of who you were when the parade started: just another LGBT cowboy or girl. Yeehaw.
When: Sat., 6/29 - Sun., 6/30
Where: Various venues

Parade
SF Gay Pride Parade
If you were thinking of going for a walk on Market Street this Sunday, you might find yourself accidentally walking into the largest annual gathering of LGBT allies in the nation. If the scantilly-clad men and women, leather garb, rainbow flags, and the sound of the Scissor Sisters' "Let's Have a Kiki" don't clue you in that the SF Gay Pride Parade is in town, then maybe you should get out of that cave more often.
When: 10:30 a.m., Sun., 6/30
Where: Market Street, between Beale and 8th streets

Best Party of the Year

Juanita MORE! Pride Party 2013
For the past 9 years, Juanita MORE!, SF's most famous drag fashionista, has been throwing legendary SF Pride Parties like it's her job. This year, look for an art installation by Desi Santiago and entertainment by "Horse Meat Disco UK," HRH Princess Diandra NYC, and a live performance by Slow Knights—a collaboration with Del Marquis of the Scissor Sisters. Money raised will go to outLoud Radio, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization that gives LGBT youth a safe place to tell their stories.
When: Noon - midnight, Sun., 6/30
Where: Jones, 620 Jones St.

Cruise

Hornblower Pride Celebration Cruise
Guests will be welcomed aboard with free-flowing champagne, bottomless mimosas, and an impressive brunch buffet that includes pastries, breakfast dishes, several entree options and delectable desserts. Coffee, tea, and juice are also complimentary, and wine, beer, and cocktails will be available for purchase. A DJ will play music as the cruise explores the scenic San Francisco Bay and a portion of ticket proceeds benefit Marriage Equality USA.
When: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Sat., 6/29
Where: Hornblower Landing on Pier 3
